Ako (あこ) is Machita's childhood friend. They have known each other since very early childhood and have bonded over their shared interests and emotional support.
Ako is an energetic enthusiastic girl who approaches everything from the positive side. If she finds herself in a serious situation, Ako acknowledges it, but nonetheless tries chipping away at it with wit and invocations of comradery.
Ako almost never makes long term plans, and instead lives from day to day, from situation to situation, sometimes from moment to moment. She does not peer into the future, and likewise she seldom looks back at the past.
Ako has a deep fascination with shrine maidens, and spends her alone time writing and sketching her fantasies involving them. Her possibly only long-term plan is the dream of becoming one.
Ako is quite athletic and likes jogging and sprinting whenever she has free time and the weather allows for it.
Ako owns a Personal Handyphone System (PHS) portable phone provided and serviced by KKGKnet, registered to her parents due to her age. She uses it to get weekly issues of a cell phone novel called Mai's Story, which further fuels her shrine maiden obsession.
Ako lives in the unnamed town, the same town where Machita did before she relocated to Kurodoro. Ako still lives in the town, and uses Machita's empty house like a shrine that enshrines her absent spirit.
